About halfway through our stay in the Dominican Republic we noticed that we had an unexpected neighbor: a tiny lizard who seemed to make his home in the broken cement around a light fixture just outside our patio. This seems, upon reflection, like a very intelligent choice – that location receives direct sun from sunrise until noon, and when the light comes on at sunset it probably provides additional heat around the base of the
fixture. The broken concrete is like a natural cave, allowing a safe hiding spot when needed. The patio is bordered by a strip of bushes that serve as a good hunting ground for whatever insects make up the lizard’s preferred diet. In terms of real estate for tiny lizards, this was probably a rare find.
